Dog Day Care FAQs

The safety of all of our guests is paramount. All pets that stay with Black Collar Society must have up-to-date vaccinations. These include: DHPP, rabies and bordetella. A certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian is required. We will accept titer tests measuring existence and level of antibodies to disease in blood in lieu of vaccine certificates. We recommend forwarding proof of vaccines to thepack@blackcollarsociety.com before visiting our facility to avoid being turned away due to expired or insufficient vaccines. Pets that have a complicated health history are encouraged to include documentation of their conditions.
We provide almost everything your dog will need at day care, but there are a few items you should bring from home:
  1. Properly fitted collar
  2. Medication if required (no additional fee to administer)
  3. Lunch (optional)
  4. Booties and/or sweaters for comfort (optional)
Please note that dogs will be dogs -- when they're playing in a pack, sweaters or other clothing items may be damaged, lost or become soiled.
You can drop off your dog for day care anytime during our regular hours of operation. Our facility is open 6am to 9pm Monday-Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday-Sunday. We are open 12pm to 5pm on Statutory Holidays and will be closed December 25 & January 1. A half-day of dog day care is good for up to 5 hours. A full day of dog day care covers up to 12 hours of care. A late fee will apply if your pet is not picked up before the 12 hour full-day limit. Does your schedule make pick-up and drop-off a challenge? We've got you covered! We can provide transportation to and from our facility with our Pet Taxi service.
Dogs are evaluated carefully and are placed in play groups with friends that complement them. Factors we take into consideration are size, age, energy level and play style. Dogs are introduced slowly to their pack in phases, based on comfort and confidence. All packs are closely monitored while they play, to ensure every dog has fun and stays safe.
Black Collar Society staff members are trained and certified in pet first aid, dog body language and stress signals. We have extensive experience with many different behavourial types, health needs, medical conditions and breed characteristics. The knowledge and expertise we've gained caring for over 1300 dogs has helped us to build the processes and policies that we use on a daily basis to keep your pet safe. Your pet's safety is our first priority.
Black Collar Society is one of the only inner city dog day cares with a natural outdoor space. No ashphalt over here! We have over 4000 square feet of outdoor access for your dogs with play structures and seasonal activities (think pool party on a hot summer's day). Our climate-controlled indoor gymnasium is another 2000 square feet of dog accessible space covered with orthopedic rubber flooring. Come see our facility for yourself by booking a tour.
We ask that all new clients arrive 5 minutes early for their first visit. This ensures you have time to complete our intake forms which include questions regarding:
  • physical information such as breed, weight, age, etc
  • health history and pre-existing conditions
  • behaviour
  • habits
  • food and sleep routines
